The sequel to the Last of Us probably won't be the last of it for Naughty Dog this console generation. There's probably one or two games left for the PlayStation 4, the company says.
Assuming the unofficially confirmed Last of Us 2 is one of those two games, Naughty Dog might have a fresh IP on the drawing boards or the studio is at least making way for one.
In an interview, Arne Meyer, community strategist for Naughty Dog, was asked about when the next console generation is coming out.
Naughty Dog, and pretty much every other game development studio, doesn't know when a console generation will end, according to Meyer. They just have to focus on making the best games possible with the best hardware available, he stated.
"I mean I have no doubt – I don't know what the timelines are – but we have at least one, maybe two games left in the console generation, maybe more," Meyer said. "Clearly we can release a game really late in a console generation and do well, right?"
Right now, the studio that brought the world Crash Bandicoot and the Last of Us is looking to close out the final chapter of its Uncharted series. As for the first of those "one, maybe two games" to follow, probably the Last of Us 2, Meyer said he hopes the studio can finish it in time for this console generation.
"I would hope we would release a game pretty soon," Meyer said. "Yeah, our development cycles aren't too long so and I have no idea how long this console generation really is going to last, but, yeah, there's no doubt it should be in this console generation for sure."
Naughty Dog's current project, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, is due for the PlayStation 4 on March 18, barring any push backs.
