As 2015 draws to a close, it's time to take a look at the past year. Google recently posted its annual look at the most popular content on Google Play, highlighting the world in 2015.
Those on the pulse of popular culture probably would have downloaded apps like Fallout Shelter, a fun simulation of the Fallout universe, in which users try to prevent horrible monsters and raiders from entering a vault of dwellers.
Heavy-hitting games like Crossy Road also made an appearance, as did classics like Angry Birds 2.
When it comes to apps that aren't games, many of the most popular apps are related to video streaming and include the likes of HBO Now, Showtime, YouTube Kids and Twitch.
It's important to note that Google's lists seem to be generated based on location, at least according to Android Police, so the list that one user sees will likely be different than the list someone sees in another part of the world.
Nonetheless, there are some things on the lists that are likely present in most places. For example, when it comes to the top albums of 2015, Adele's "25" was the most downloaded despite only being released a few weeks ago. Other albums included "If You're Reading This it's Too Late" by Drake and "To Pimp a Butterfly" by Kendrick Lamar.
When it comes to TV shows, perhaps unsurprising is the fact that Game of Thrones topped the list. Next up was The Walking Dead, followed by Downton Abbey as well as the Walking Dead spinoff Fear the Walking Dead.
Books were even less versatile, at least from my location. Various installments in the Fifty Shades of Grey books topped the first four on the books list, with the only non-Fifty Shades of Grey book being American Sniper, which came in fifth.
