American League MVP Josh Donaldson Covers 'MLB The Show 16'

It's showtime!

And gracing the cover of the new MLB The Show 16 is one of baseball's best hitters — American League MVP and Toronto Blue Jays third baseman, Josh Donaldson. The game is available for pre-order on PS3 and PS4 now and will officially hit stores on March 29, just in time for the first pitch of the 2016 Major League Baseball season.

So, why Donaldson as the cover subject? The Blue Jays slugger belted a career-high 41 home runs and MLB-tops 123 RBI last season, leading Toronto into the playoffs.

Turning 30-years-old on Tuesday, being the cover subject of MLB The Show 16 is quite the early birthday present to the All-Star third baseman.

"Bringing the rain to @mlbtheshow 16! Excited and honored to be on this year's cover," Donaldson tweeted over the weekend in excitement.

Accompanying the announcement is a short trailer of Donaldson showing off his all-around game, including stretching out off the hot corner to stop a line drive and record an out, smacking a home run and admiring another long ball exiting a stadium at top speeds.

From the mere looks of this 59-second trailer, baseball fans and gamers alike should be pleased by the crisp, clean graphics.

The gameplay touts a smooth zeroing-in tracker for players to use while fielding a ball rifling off a bat or while locking in on a fastball, slider, curveball or changeup at the plate.

The 2016 MLB season is tentatively scheduled to start with the defending champion Kansas City Royals hosting the New York Mets in a rematch of the 2015 World Series.
