Peking Duk fan David Spargo decided to sneak backstage after the band's set at a concert in Melbourne, Australia and did it — all with the help of an edited Wikipedia entry.
"It was probably the most genius, mastermind move that I've ever witnessed," said Adam Hyde — who, along with Reuben Styles, is one of the members of the electronic music duo — to the Guardian in an interview.
The fan decided last-minute to add his name to the band's Wikipedia entry as a bandmate's relative, and showed it to the bouncer guarding the backstage door to gain admittance to hang behind-the-scenes — and it worked.
As Spargo put it, "Peking Duk's set finished and I was about to head home, then I just had a lightbulb-above-the-head kind of moment and thought, yeah, I'll give it a crack."
"No harm in trying, is there?" he added.
"He told the security guard he was our stepbrother or something, and showed them the Wikipedia page and his ID," explained Hyde, who then added, "Never trust Wikipedia."
After gaining entry, Spargo sought out the band — and his night took a turn for the best.
"We ended up having a bunch of beers with him and he was an absolute legend. He wasn't a creep or anything. He was like the most normal dude we've ever met. That's what makes it more hilarious," Hyde continued.
Spargo later showed the band a screen shot of the Wikipedia entry he meddled with, much to their amusement. The members of Peking Duk later posted it to their Twitter and Facebook accounts, along with a meme from the movie Anchorman captioned "that's amazing."
