In Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic, the character of Michonne disappeared between issues #126 and #139. Now, for the first time ever, fans can find out what happened to her and learn what took her away from Rick and the gang, and ultimately, what brought her back, thanks to Telltale Games' latest title, The Walking Dead: Michonne.
In The Walking Dead: Michonne, a three-episode game series, fans step into the role of the iconic character, as voiced by Samira Wiley from Orange is the New Black. Follow Michonne as she deals with a past full of loss and regret and learn about her as-of-yet untold journey from the hit comic book series and television show.
"We've been hard at work on this very special exploration of The Walking Dead universe that will further bridge together our game series with the canon of Robert Kirkman's comic though one of its most complex characters struggling to maintain her own humanity," said Kevin Bruner, co-founder and CEO of Telltale Games, in an emailed press statement. "Deeply haunted by the decisions of her past, putting players in the role of a character like Michonne to navigate the broken world around her is an experience that feels uniquely Telltale, and something we simply cannot wait for The Walking Dead fans to play."
Telltale also released a reveal trailer teasing the title's story and gameplay:
The reveal trailer hints at something from Michonne's past, featuring a child's voice, saying, "Mama, where are you?" There's also some Michonne on zombie action with Wiley's voiceover saying "Not everyone deserves saving."
Telltale's The Walking Dead series of games has sold more than 50 million episodes worldwide and has also nabbed dozens of awards, including Game of the Year awards from USA Today, Wired, the VGAs, Polygon, Destructoid and Metacritic. The game also received two BAFTA awards for Best Story and Best Mobile Game.
The series takes players through the world of The Walking Dead comics and includes moral-based choices that affect the outcome of the game.
The Walking Dead: Michonne is a standalone series in Telltale's The Walking Dead universe, and the first to focus on the popular character.
