The smallest GoPro camera just got a whole lot more affordable, as the Hero4 Session is now 50 percent off at $199.99.
The GoPro Hero4 Session is a tiny cube capable of great things, but its original price tag of $400 was quite stingy, especially since the more powerful Hero4 Silver had the same price.
The cube-shaped gadget is more versatile, fits into narrower spaces (unlike its siblings) and allows for more mounting options. The camera's biggest flaw was its steep price. The Hero4 Session's newly-discounted price of $199.99, however, makes it a worthy purchase, and the camera could turn out to be a real game changer.
"HERO4 Session packs the power of GoPro into our smallest, lightest, most convenient camera yet, featuring a rugged and waterproof design, easy one-button control, revolutionary battery efficiency, 1080p60 video and 8MP photos," GoPro boasts on the Hero4 Session product page.
The GoPro Hero4 comes in Silver or Black, and is priced at $400 and $500, respectively. It will most likely continue to be the preferred by aspiring filmmakers or those who want top-notch imagery, but a $199 Hero4 Session is nonetheless a great bargain for most people looking for a reliable action camera.
The Hero4 Session can shoot quality footage even underwater, as the 2.6oz (74g), cube-shaped gadget is capable of going up to 33 feet underwater without needing any additional housing. It's also the most user-friendly among all GoPro cameras. Its Wi-Fi connectivity and great form factor drew lots of interest.
In terms of dimensions, the Session cube measures less than 1.5 inches on each side. The gadget is a GoPro nonetheless, boasting impressive capabilities for its size. The Hero4 Session can shoot 1080p video at 60 fps, and comes with popular GoPro modes including 1,440p at 30fps. It also supports the most frequently used slow-motion and 4:3 modes. On the other hand, the tiny camera does not come with 4K or 2.7K support.
Hero4 Session users can capture still images in 8-megapixel wide-angle or 5-megapixel medium resolutions, while lapse and burst modes allow for up to 10 shots per second.
Lastly, the gadget features a microUSB port, a microSD card slot and a dual-microphone setup that switches from one mic to another so it can capture the best audio even when it's noisy or windy. It has a non-removable battery that promises up to two hours of continuous use.
Overall, the GoPro Hero4 Session is a pretty great package and with its new $199.99 price tag, it could make its way to many Christmas lists this year.
