This year is drawing to a close and tech enthusiasts have witnessed a slew of gadgets launched by various companies such as Apple, Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG and more. Companies have now started preparing for 2016 and Sony has already sent press invites for its event at CES 2016, which starts in early January.
The visuals on the invitation include a CyberShot camera, VR headset, hi-fi gear, a very thin TV and a smartphone. Sony did not launch a smartphone at the 2015 CES; however, from the press invite it seems that the company is gearing to showcase a brand new mobile device such as the next-generation Xperia Z6 at the upcoming event.
Rumors of the Xperia Z6 have already started to surface and some speculations suggest that the upcoming Xperia Z6 will sport a 5.5-inch IPS LCD 4K display. A powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor is expected to run the Xperia Z6.
Apple launched the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus in September this year and both the phones feature 3D Touch, a pressure-sensitive screen, which has attracted millions of customers around the world.
Rumor has it that Sony will also introduce a pressure-sensitive screen technology in the Xperia Z6, which may give significant competition to the current-generation iPhones.
The Xperia Z6 will succeed the Xperia Z5, which was launched in September this year. The Xperia Z5 includes 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage, which can be expanded to up to 200GB with a microSD card. The Xperia Z6 may be packed with 4GB of RAM to boost performance and include at least 32GB of internal storage.
Google has already released its latest mobile operating system - Android 6.0 Marshmallow - and a number of Nexus and non-Nexus devices have launched with the latest OS already. It is highly likely that the Xperia Z6 comes running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box.
Sony has not yet revealed any details about the Xperia Z6, which means customers will have to wait until the official press event to know more about the smartphone.
The upcoming Sony press conference will start at 5 p.m. PT on Jan. 5, 2016 at the the Las Vegas Convention Center.
