The Spot smart home camera wants to be your eyes ... and ears.
The Spot streams continuous content like other smart-home cameras do, but the difference between it and other competitors in the space, is this product also has its ears wide open, too.
The Spot camera can hear smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, notifying users that they are going off, even when they're not home. So, in the case that a fire breaks out or there's a carbon monoxide leak, the Spot camera can sense it and notify you on your smartphone, regardless of where you are, via its iPhone and Android apps.
That quality alone should be enough of a reason to cough up the $99 to land two Spot cameras via the product's Indiegogo campaign. The expected shipping date is March 2016.
That and SmartAlarm, the makers of the Spot, say that they want to add additional sound recognition features to the camera, so it will be able to sense things like glass breaking if there's a break-in, robbery attempt and a baby's cry.
Other features of the small, cube-like camera include night vision, two-way audio and streaming video and cloud storage. It also boasts a memory card slot, fitting up to 64GB cards.
Already, the smart home camera has received $144,659, nearly triple the amount of its $50,000 flexible goal with 32 days left in its crowdfunding campaign.
The Spot camera can be easily mounted on the wall, ceiling, or bookshelf, positioned comfortably to capture whatever it is you might need.
