Oculus founder Palmer Luckey is slated to make a "special announcement" later this week during The Game Awards in Los Angeles.
Geoff Keighley, the event's host, made the announcement on Nov. 30 via Twitter.
It is anticipated that Luckey is going to disclose specific details on the release date, price and functionalities for this wearable device.
Virtual reality aficionados should tune into the show which happens on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 9 p.m. EST or 6 p.m. PT, via YouTube and Twitch.
The Game Awards is a yearly livestreaming show which recognizes excellence in game development. This show will feature promotions for big games in the coming year and highlight a few of 2015's best games. Additionally, the show will include performances from CHVRCHES.
"The Game Awards 2015 will feature awards, world premieres of Far Cry Primal, Quantum Break, Mortal Kombat, a special announcement from Oculus plus musical performances from the CHVRCHES, deadmau5 and other surprises," reads the description of the event's promo video.
Previously, Luckey hinted at the price of the VR headset. When a journalist questioned him about the price of the Oculus Rift, he answered back saying that the price tag will be over $350.
"You know, I’m going to be perfectly honest with you. We’re roughly in that ballpark… but it’s going to cost more than that," said Luckey. "And the reason for that is that we’ve added a lot of technology to this thing beyond what existed in the DK1 and DK2 days."
He touted that the Oculus Rift is going to be the best VR headset anybody can purchase. He added that people will surely be pleased with what they are going to get for the price of the wearable device.
In the meantime, in May, Oculus' boss Brendan Iribe likewise provided a clue at the price of the device, noting that this is a $1,500 experience. This price, however, includes the cost of the computer which is capable to run the software and game.
