Police Respond To Alleged Death Threats And Woman Screaming In Domestic Dispute -- Find Man And A Spider

An apartment block in Wollstonecraft, Sydney, Australia became the setting of a tragicomedy when several police cars responded to an alleged domestic dispute after a woman's terrified screams pierced the peaceful night. But as it turned out, it was simply an incident involving just an arachnophobic man and a huge spider.

We're all familiar with the scenario: a couple goes on a screaming match that includes death threats, crashing sounds indicate furniture and other items being thrown, fearful neighbors call the authorities and maybe one or both parties are taken into custody for domestic dispute.

That was thought to be the case in Wollstonecraft when, at around 2:00 A.M., several disturbed neighbors alerted the police about a domestic violence happening in their apartment block. The distraught calls from neighbors were brought upon by a screaming match between a man who was allegedly yelling "I'm going to kill you! You're dead! Die, die!" in a booming voice and a woman who was "screaming hysterically."

Police from the Harbourside Local Area Command (LAC) - New South Wales (NSW) came to the apartment in question where they found a man who was described as panting and out of breath. The police officers questioned the man on the whereabouts of his wife, which the man denied of having one, then asked about his girlfriend but he also claimed he didn't have one. When the officers explained the reason for their arrival, the man sheepishly confessed that the terrified woman's screams actually came from him when he found a huge spider in his apartment.

Aware that this could simply be an excuse or a cover up, the policemen searched the man's apartment and found neither girlfriend nor wife, but a rather large, dead spider. Unusual though it was, officers concluded that the man's story checks out and that both bellowing threats and womanly screams were indeed from the same man who was chasing after a large spider with a can of Mortein insect spray as a weapon.

The officers left the apartment after a moment's pause and relieved laughter.

Of course, it was such a memorable incident that the Harbourside LAC posted the incident as part of the news roll and claimed it as their favorite among all events that transpired.
