2016 McLaren 675LT Spider Caught On Camera: Spy Photos Give A Great Look At Design

While the auto industry expected the open-top McLaren 675LT Spider to come out in 2016, the model is already out on the open road.

Earlier in October, it was still unclear whether or not the car will reach the production phase. Spy images now indicate that not only has McClaren 675LT Spider entered production, but it reached the stage of real traffic testing conditions.

McLaren made a custom out of having open-top models on level with its coupés when it comes to roaring power, which means that the Spider will most likely borrow the multiple G acceleration from the 675LT.

Looking at the spy photos available from Auto Evolution, it is apparent that the 675LT Spider gets a hard-top folding roof just like the precedent convertible models. This should add little weight to the default weight of the car, which is of 2,712 pounds (1,230 kg for our metric system readers).

The sleek looking 675LT coupé goes from 0 to 62 mph in only 2.9 seconds and at top speed it reaches a whopping 205 mph. That's nearly 330 km/h, dear European readers. The 675LT Spider will achieve such impressive numbers with the help the of a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine also found on the 67LT coupés, which gifts the McLaren with 666 HP and 526 lb-ft.

The convertible 675LT Spider has some prominent rivals in the ultra-fast, premium vehicles, as Autocar points out. One is the 488 Spider from Ferrari, sporting 660 HP from its 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It is a tad slower than the 675LT, though, as it reaches 62 mph in 3.0 seconds.

Alongside the 675LT Spider model, McLaren has a select few models in the Super Series category: the default 675LT, the 650S and the exclusive Asian model 625C. The British car maker also has a so-called Ultimate Series, featuring the halo models P1 GTR and P1. The recently launched 570S and 540C fit into the Sports Series.

The automotive company will keep busy after the official release of the 675LT Spider model. The 570S GT already began prior-to-launch testing, while the 570S Spider is waiting for 2017 to test the tarmac. The successor of the 650S McLaren was announced for 2018.

How much does it cost to own a convertible 675LT Spider? Previous offers from McLaren make it clear that the open-top version costs more than the coupé, so expect the 675LT Spider to be around of $420,000.
