Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Will Have Curved Display Edges On All Sides: Report

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S7 may be the curviest phone ever.

Building on the S6 Edge's curved sides, rumors making the rounds on the Internet point to an all-around curved handset.

Samsung debuted their flagship phone just a day before the official start of the Mobile World Congress earlier in 2015. Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge marked a new design direction for the company's flagship handsets. It took the single curved edge of the 2014 Galaxy Note 5 Edge and slapped it on both sides of the all-metal Galaxy S6. Because there are no other places to put curves on a handset, the S7 Edge is rumored to sport a curved top and bottom, too.

That's right. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge may just come with curves on all four sides of the phone: left, right, top and bottom. Of course, we won't know for sure if the rumors are true until the Korean conglomerate says they are, but this isn't too far-fetched a possibility.

Samsung has, in fact, already filed a patent for such a top-to-bottom curved display. Combined with the company's already existing line of Youm bendy, plastic substrate-based displays, the rumors about the curviest Galaxy seem to be substantiated.

The best concept renders show the S7 Edge having a trapezoid shape when viewed from the sides. It's certainly unique, but the rest of the handset is as normal as any other leading flagship phone albeit with the latest parts.

For example, the Galaxy S7 Edge is expected to be outfitted with Samsung's latest Exynos 8 processor or Qualcomm's 820 chipset with 4GB of RAM. There should also be a big 20-megapixel Britecell-based rear-facing camera in the S7 which will also sport the new USB Type-C standard connector.

The screen will be the standout feature for the device, and at a rumored 5.7 inches, we sure that measurement includes its sloping sides. But will the S7 Edge's curved sides be of any real-world use? The S6 Edge's functionality was a bit limited and didn't give users the option to truly customize the curved edge. Hopefully, Samsung would allow users a bit more leeway to do what they want with the extra screen real estate aside from displaying notifications and the time.
