Michael Bay 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' reboot: Kids are not impressed

Kids today raised on CGI and 3D animation aren't too kind to shows from the past, and the original "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" television show is no exception. Don't think their dislike is only reserved for the past, though, because kids are equally unimpressed with the upcoming Michael Bay produced "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie reboot.

As part of their "Kids React" series, Youtube channel TheFineBros records the reactions of boys and girls years 6-13 to various things, this time to the retro TMNT show that debuted in 1988 and ran for 10 seasons, with the final episode airing in 1996. While most can't help but dance along to the incredibly catchy theme song, most gave the show a thumbs down for its 2D art, as the majority of the kids know the turtles from the current CG animated "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" series on Nickelodeon. Most of the kids weren't even aware TMNT was an old, rebooted property, thinking the current show was its first form.

The majority of the kids also had no idea a new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film is landing in theaters August 8, and after viewing the trailer probably won't be watching it either. One of the kids who had seen the trailers and is keenly aware of Michael Bay's brand of filmmaking was less than enthusiastic.

"It's awesome," he says sarcastically.

After the trailer, children's reactions on the film range from "bleck" to "doesn't look that good." One kid even hits on the fact that the turtles look more human, a piece of criticism many TMNT fans have leveled at the new film. That's nothing compared to the children's reaction on the old TMNT films, saying the old turtle costumes look cheesy, fake and weird.

The kids do hit the nail on the head when asked why fans sometimes get upset when their favorite franchises are rebooted and updated.

"They want to keep it like the same way as it is," says one kid. "It's nostalgia," says another boy. "They saw it from a long time ago. Now they see it again and it's all different. It feels like they changed their entire childhood."

When it came down to a vote on whether or not the kids would watch the old TMNT show after learning more about it over the course of the video, a slight majority said they weren't interested in watching the show. Perhaps unsurprisingly, most of the boys said they liked "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," while most of the girls didn't. Maybe the next version of TMNT needs a girl turtle?
