Bret Hart has had waning interest in WWE since the absences of Daniel Bryan and CM Punk.
Bryan has been out of the ring, still waiting for medical clearance to return from a serious neck injury, while Punk left World Wrestling Entertainment for UFC amid brushes with the company's top brass.
While Hart, a WWE Hall of Famer, understands that Bryan's situation must be handled with care, he's outright blaming Triple H for the sudden exit of CM Punk. "The Hitman" recently told Sports Illustrated that Punk was right to argue on behalf of the full-timers in opposition of the part-time WWE Superstars — like Brock Lesnar — who are able to work a shortened schedule and still be main attractions.
"I'd have to take Punk's side on it," Hart said. "Triple H is a bodybuilder nut. He goes after the bodies. He doesn't care how good — and he can look in the mirror — guys work, he cares how guys look. Punk and Bryan are guys concerned with how they work. It's a different philosophy. I admire Punk for taking his stand. He was the guy doing all the work, every week, going injured, and here's a guy sitting at home — working three or four times a year — and you're going to give him the main event at WrestleMania? I'm not buying it."
The outspoken Hart said Superstars on the WWE's roster should have rallied behind Punk, too.
"All the wrestlers in the dressing room should be more understanding of what was on the line there," Hart continued. "Punk went to bat for the wrestlers in the company who were doing the work, and I have a lot of respect for that. I also have a lot of respect for guys like Batista and Brock Lesnar, but if they're not going to do any kind of schedule and just come in and collect the big check, that's not fair to the guys who are doing all the work. I don't see how anyone else could see it any differently."
Hart makes a good point. Imagine being a WWE Superstar grinding out match after match on a nightly basis full-time, only to watch a bigger-name part-timer with a comfier schedule swoop in and headline all the main events.
The Excellence of Execution went on to say that Vince McMahon regrets letting Punk walk away with the sour taste he had in his mouth, before blasting Triple H once again.
"Vince is sorry that they lost Punk," Hart said. "Vince has a better sense of wrestlers' look and their work, and Triple H is more prone to bodybuilders. If a guy is 6 foot 5 and has a bodybuilder's physique, that's all that matters to him. But he's wrong."
