Pepsi announced last month its plans to release its first-ever Android-based touchscreen smartphone, and has now launched a crowdfunding campaign to bring the company's branded phone to consumers.
Called the Pepsi Phone P1, the device is manufactured by Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment Co. and features the Pepsi logo on the back. The device also sports the brand's popular colors, featuring a red default wallpaper, as well as white and blue logos. But it doesn't try to oversell itself as a Pepsi phone with its gold body color and white bezel around the display. There are also silver and blue options offered.
Regardless whether you are filled with joy that the soda company has entered the tech space, Pepsi's Phone P1 is equipped with respectable specs, such as as a 1.7-GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, a Mali 450-MP4 GPU, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, a microSD slot, and dual SIM support.
The smartphone has a 5.5-inch 2.5D curved glass display, a 5-megapixel camera for the front, and a 13-megapixel camera for the back.
The smartphone runs an overlay of dido OS 6.1. a custom user interface which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, has a fingerprint sensor, and is powered by a 3,000-mAh battery.
The company is crowdfunding its Pepsi Phone P1 in China, with the early bird price of $78 (U.S. dollars) already sold out. Consumers in China can purchase their Pepsi Phone P1 for 699 yuan, the equivalent of $110, but only until its 1,000 units are sold out. The smartphone will then retail for 999 yuan ($156).
