Apple and Samsung recently launched their largest tablets to date and both companies are hoping the extra real estate helps reverse the continued tablet sales decline. The move into larger display tablets is a sign from Apple and Samsung to Microsoft that they mean business.
While the Surface Pro 4 and new Surface Book appear to be instant successes for the company, Apple and Samsung are hoping to lure would-be Surface owners into one of their jumbo slates.
Apple's latest and greatest iPad is its new iPad Pro, which features the company's largest iPad display and power to date, packing in a 12.9-inch 2,048 x 2,723 Retina Display and a 64-bit A9X processor. The company's claim of having 'desktop-class performance' have been confirmed in reviews. The device is now up for shipping and currently offers 32 GB and 128 GB Wi-Fi options for $799 and $949 respectively. While the128 GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model will cost you $1,079.
Samsung has taken a similar approach in trying to entice tablet fans into a device that it hypes as being the ultimate Android tablet for TV fans who want to cut the cord and use a device that offers a TV-like experience. Samsung outdoes its competitors in delivering an 18.4-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display that has a convenient kickstand reminiscent of Microsoft's Surface and allows Samsung's entry to operate as a portable tablet that can be easily moved room to room or taken on the go and function as a portable TV. The Galaxy View is also considerably less expensive than Apple and Microsoft's tablets.
The Samsung Galaxy View has been on sale for a few weeks and began at a retail price of $599 but Samsung has officially cut the price of the Galaxy View by $100. It's unclear how long the price cut will last, which Samsung describes as "Price includes $100 limited time holiday instant savings" on its online store.
Samsung and Amazon are both listing the entry level 32 GB 18.4-inch Samsung Galaxy View with a new price of $499.99. Samsung and Amazon are both currently sold out of the White Galaxy View while Samsung and Amazon have a couple of Black 32 GB Samsung Galaxy View jumbo tablets in stock and ready to ship.
