Users of the Nexus 6 smartphone will soon be able to benefit from the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update, if you have the T-Mobile variant of the device that is.
The news comes straight from the horse's mouth, i.e. courtesy of Des Smith, product evangelist at T-Mobile, who took to Twitter to share that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the carrier's variant of the Nexus 6 had been given the green signal and would start rolling out to smartphones soon.
Smith also revealed that update had the build number MRA58X.
T-Mobile was slated to push out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in October initially. The carrier had revealed early last month that the Nexus 6 would get updated to Marshmallow within a week.
However, the rollout got delayed and did not get pushed out as initially planned as the carrier found a major bug. Smith recently explained on Twitter that when T-Mobile put the build through testing, it found the bug. As a result, the carrier had to get a new build which had to be tested out again.
The wait is now finally over for Nexus 6 owners on T-Mobile. Smith's assertions are corroborated by T-Mobile's software update status page. The page shows the status of the Nexus 6's Android 6.0 Marshmallow as completed, indicating that the roll out is imminent.
"The software has been approved to launch and is now available," notes the T-Mobile update page.
Since the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be sent OTA, it will be pushed out by the carrier in phases. An alert for its availability should pop up automatically. Alternately, those unable to wait can check manually by going to Settings > System > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates.
