Beyoncé unveiled a teaser trailer for "Fifty Shades of Grey" on her Instagram account, sparking theories on whether the star will be featured in the film. The 15-second Instagram video features a slowed down version of the singer's song "Crazy in Love," as well as a clip of a man facing a window, a door ominously locking and a lot of deep breathing.
According to the video, the first trailer will arrive on Thursday, July 24, 2014. The film is due out in theaters on Feb. 13, 2015.
The 17-time Grammy Award winner was first linked to the film in March when her song "Haunted" was used in footage for the film shown at CinemaCon. There's no word yet if these two instances will be the extent of Beyoncé's involvement with the film.
Historically, Beyoncé has avoided talking to the press, preferring to use her social media as her own PR device. Because when you have 13 million Instagram followers and people calling you Queen Bey, releasing a statement to the press seems a bit blasé.
But the notoriously private singer is meticulous about her social media activities, never revealing too much or too little. Remember that infamous video of Solange attacking Jay-Z in an elevator while Beyoncé stood by and watched? Before releasing a statement to the press the singer took to social media. The multiplatinum artist released a series of photos on Instagram of her and Solange looking happy and sisterly. Stronger than a "no comment" to the press, these extremely transparent Instagram photos were basically their own press statement. We could almost hear Beyoncé saying "Case closed."
Then, of course, there was the time when the singer announced the release of her surprise, self-titled album to her fans through social media. Apparently "bored" with releasing an album the usual way, with SNL appearances, lyric videos and documentaries, the singer dropped the release to her fans on Facebook and Instagram. So is this "Fifty Shades of Grey" teaser trailer some type of subliminal hint or simply a teaser trailer? I guess we'll find out soon enough, probably through Beyoncé's Instagram account.
