Skype announced that it has updated its Android app to version 6.11. The update brings a number of new features that enhance customer experience, and one of the most notable additions is the ability to save video messages.
The Microsoft-owned Internet telephony service made the new component of its Android app very simple and straight forward. In fact, Skype users can just tap on a received video message and then save it to their device's photo gallery.
"Sometimes the most precious memories are the everyday moments. And at Skype, we want to help people come together so they can share experiences wherever they are. Today, we're excited to launch Skype 6.11 for Android, which brings new features that will help you share and keep those moments that matter," per Skype.
Besides the above mentioned new feature, the update will now let users manage conversations easier. For example, by long tapping on a chat or a contact from the Recent tab list, a new toolbar menu will pop out and on it are the options to mute, mark as read and delete notifications.
Apart from the videos, Skype users can now share pictures within a conversation, directly from the device's photo gallery. But if a picture is just not enough, the upgraded Moji is now accessible by a simple tap, too.
Lastly, the new version of Skype for Android also brings enhanced searching. Users can not only search for names and contacts, but also contents of a conversation.
New Skype users can download the app and the for free from Google Play Store. The download file size and the required Android version vary depending on the device. However, Android devices running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich should probably run the latest Skype app.
