When Fallout 4 released on Nov. 10, it quickly broke the record for most concurrent users on Valve's PC gaming platform, with more than 400,000 players online at one time. It's been the top-selling game on the platform since then.
Now, a week later, gamers are still pouring hours into the title. At any given time, roughly 200,000 people are playing the game on Steam, and as they play, they unlock the game's various achievements. These achievements are tracked by Steam and can be viewed by anybody, and they reveal some interesting statistics about how much players have accomplished in the last seven days.
A few players are having trouble finding their way out of Vault 111 ... or simply haven't had time to play. Steam's achievement stats show that roughly 12 percent of players haven't yet left the Vault. It takes about an hour or so to get out of Fallout 4's intro sequence and take your first steps into the Wasteland.
Most players have earned the achievements for reaching level five and meeting the Minutemen, but from there, the numbers go down significantly. Only four percent of players have reached level 50, for example. A slightly higher number of players, 5.8 percent of them, have earned the "Prepared for the Future" achievement, which is awarded for "deciding the fate of the Wasteland." There still seems to be some confusion over what exactly the requirements of the achievement are, but it looks like players must play through the main quest line or various faction quest lines to earn it.
Then, there are achievements that almost nobody has. Some of them are surprising, like the "Prankster's Return" achievement. This requires players to pickpocket an NPC and place a live grenade in the AI's pocket, which will then explode. So far, only 0.6 percent of Steam players have ever tried this, which is surprising considering how relatively easy the achievement is. It simply requires players to be at level six and put two points into the pickpocket perk.
However, there is only one achievement that, according to Steam, almost nobody has unlocked. It's called "Benevolent Leader," and it requires players to build a large settlement with 100 happiness. There are several guides for how to do this online, but the short version is it requires thousands of caps and dozens of hours of construction, recruitment, leveling up and resource-collection.
Even with that in mind, it's still a little crazy to think that not a single person has completed the task. It's unclear if nobody has earned this achievement at all or if the actual number of players who have is simply too low to equal 0.1 percent. Regardless, Fallout 4 looks like it will be keeping gamers busy for a long, long time.
