Microsoft Translator is fresh out of beta, launching as a new Windows 10 universal app that will work across all Windows 10-powered devices.
With Google's translator tool in its sight, the new Microsoft Translator offers support for 50 languages in text, 18 languages in voice and 19 languages in picture translation. The latter allows users to take a photo of a document and get a translation.
As Microsoft points out in a new announcement on the Microsoft Translator team blog, the new Translator also received a full redesign to take full advantage of the capabilities of Windows 10.
Here's what the new Microsoft Translator has to offer:
- A new user experience that allows for seamless functionality across all Windows 10 PC experiences, complete with a full screen option on Windows 10 tablets, the ability to work alongside a website or app you need to translate on a laptop or tablet, as well as the option to appear as a companion desktop app in a resizable floating window.
- Universal app functionality - leveraging the power of Windows 10 allows Microsoft Translator to deliver the same look and feel across all Windows 10 devices, from phones to PCs.
- Pin translations for quick and easy access, search for pinned translations by their type (text, voice or camera).
- Integrated search bar for search history and favorite translations
- Quick and easy access to the last three languages used
- Language dialect option for the text-to-speech features available for a number of languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese and French
- Camera translations support for new languages - Romanian, Slovak and Serbian Cyrrilic
- New language support for Kiswahili, complete with offline downloadable language pack
Kiswahili also becomes available for online text translation in Microsoft's Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone Translator apps.
