The Chromecast app now offers global support.
Chromecast is a digital media streaming adapter developed by Google. The device streams audio/video content via Wi-Fi on a high-definition (HD) television. Chromecast users have to select the audio/video content from their Google Chrome web browser on their desktop, which they want to play on their television.
Google announced Chromecast on July 24, 2013 and the device was available for purchase on the same day itself at a price tag of $35. Chromecast is currently available only in the U.S. and the company has not announced its plans to launch the device in any other country. However, the Chromecast app is now said to support countries outside the U.S. as well.
The Chromecast cannot be compared with living room system-casting devices such as Apple TV, Xbox, Roku and more; however, it is an easy and simple way to play audio/video from your desktop or portable device (smartphone or tablet) to your television without the hassles of wires.
"Good news for anyone outside the U.S. who's managed to import a Chromecast into their country. We're hearing reports that the accompanying Android app can now be downloaded through Google Play by international users, and we've confirmed that that's the case in the UK," reports Android Central.
The Chromecast app supports Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus and Google Play Movies as well as select content via the Chrome browser. However, if you are using Chromecast outside the U.S., Netflix and Hulu may not be supported.
The Chromecast app works with Android, iOS, Chrome for Mac and Chrome for Windows. The device is very easy to setup on any HTDV using a Wi-Fi network.
A recent The Droid Guy report suggests that Amazon is shipping the Chromecast to various countries outside the U.S. Some of the countries include Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, UK and Netherlands.
Users can download the Chromecast app from Google Play Store or Apple iTunes for free.
