J.J. Abrams Partners With 'Infinity Blade' Developer For New Video Game

J.J. Abrams is a busy man: not only is he helming the new Star Wars trilogy of films, but he's also planning on creating a video game with developer ChAIR, the team behind Shadow Complex and Infinity Blade.

That game is Spyjinx, and its official website launched recently to announce its presence to the world. There isn't a lot of information about the title yet, but the website does say that it's from ChAIR and Bad Robot (Abrams' production company) and even has a signup for a closed beta.

"I've been a fan of video games for years, envious of the artists and storytellers who have gotten to play in that world," said Abrams to IGN. "Over two years ago, we met with the geniuses at ChAIR in the hopes of collaborating with them. The result has been something beyond any of our expectations. Since then we have been working closely with them to create something that I cannot wait to get into the hands of gamers all over the world."

On its website, Spyjinx refers to itself as a game powered by Unreal Engine 4 that "is a unique mix of action strategy gameplay, dynamic world building and RPG character development — all set in a thrilling, treacherous world of espionage."

"Bad Robot is uniquely talented at making you deeply care about characters and the trials they experience," said ChAIR co-founder Donald Mustard. "As game developers, we knew that if we could apply that knowledge to creating game systems that help players care about the world we build for them and then give them tools that let them shape and exercise agency in that world, then we could create something really special."

In a video with Abrams and ChAIR's Donald Mustard, Abrams speaks about being a fan of games, as well as why he chose to collaborate with the developer on Spyjinx.

This is the first time that J.J. Abrams has delved into the world of video games, although there were discussions a few years ago that he planned on partnering with Steam's Gabe Newell, something that never happened.

Spyjinx should release on PC and mobile devices sometime in 2016. Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by Abrams, releases on Dec. 18.
