Verizon wants its customers to know that its $30 unlimited data plan will have a $20 on top by Nov. 15. The carrier seems to be encouraging its subscribers to go for its new plans.
The announcement isn't really recent, as Verizon already broadcasted the price hike last month. Plenty of users have expressed their — to put it nicely — displeasure about the carrier's move, but the development is apparently new to some people.
At the start of November, Verizon has been welcoming customers with an "important message regarding their bill," letting customers know of the increase.
"Starting on November 15, 2015, we are increasing the price of each unlimited data feature by $20/mo. If any of your lines with an unlimited data feature are currently on a two-year contract, the increase will not begin until you complete your contract term or enter into a new one" Verizon's pop-up message reads.
According to the reminder, not all customers will be immediately affected by the price hike. Verizon spokesperson Chuck Hamby says that 99 percent of the carrier's subscribers are already on a limited data plan.
"Some of those folks in the 1 percent that are on unlimited plans, they could save money if they switched to one of the new Verizon plans, based on their usage," Hamby claims.
Verizon reassures its customers in a statement, justifying its marked-up price.
"As data use continues to grow, we continuously evaluate the price of our plans and service. This change will allow Verizon to continue to maintain the highest network performance for all our customers, while still providing great value for access to the nation's reliable wireless service," Droid Life reports as part of Verizon's statement.
Before you're doomed to pay that additional $20 or forced to switch over to a metered data plan, it might be a good idea to go all out on your current unlimited data plan — you know, just to go out with a bang and get the most out of the remaining time you have with the plan.
