Halo 5: Guardians had a smashing first week in terms of sales and hours of gameplay, and now the game itself is about to get even bigger with a new DLC set to drop sometime soon.
The latest in the Halo franchise, the fifth iteration of the game brings the series' total revenue to over $5 billion with $400 million of that coming from Guardians' first week on store shelves.
Of over 21 million hours of gameplay logged so far on Halo 5: Guardians, the game's development team over at 343 Industries says they've got some "new stuff" coming "in just over a week."
According to the blog on Halo's official website, what's coming are bigger Big Team Battles where the classic 8 vs. 8 battles are making a comeback, a handful of new maps in Arena matchmaking that were designed by both the 343 team and the Halo 5 community, brand-new REQs, and a ton of new vehicles to add to the mayhem.
The new maps come inspired by classic battlegrounds such as Standoff, Burial Mounds, Longbow, and many others. They were created by the Halo community's top Forgers namely Warholic, The Fated Fire, The Psycho Duck, Nokyard, and Ducain23.
As for the upcoming REQs and vehicles, 343 only teased a partially completed graphic that they say they'll be filling up over the next week. All that's revealed on the November REQ Sneak Peak include the Tracer Armor Set, Green Machine, Tundra Scorpion, and Flaming Horns. There's a ton more REQs waiting in the wings so Halo gamers will have plenty to play for for a long time coming.
Besides the goodies included in the upcoming DLC for Halo 5: Guardians, the game's lead designer and engineer, Chris Kong and Scott Sims, also took to the blog to talk about controller fixes and the game's new aiming system.
Long story short, they say they've got a fix coming for that "slow turn" bug some players have experienced on their controllers. In addition, the team recognizes that while a "small number" of players may find their new aiming system "a shade harder than it used to be," most players are adjusting quite well to it anyway.
Players will have to adjust soon, however. The DLC drops the week of Nov. 16.
