Mad Max: Fury Road' Sequel Updates: Director Talks About Title and Cast, Definitely No Mel Gibson

One of this year's most-lauded films was "Mad Max: Fury Road." The fourth installment in the Mad Max franchise, the film reached the box office's $300 million mark, earning $125 million in domestic markets and additional $177 million in international markets.

Following the success of the 2015 film, the next installment is currently in the works.

In an exclusive interview, Australian director George Miller ("Happy Feet," "The Witches of Eastwick") revealed further details about the upcoming movie.

Miller guaranteed Tom Hardy fans that they will "definitely see more of Tom." However, the same can't be said for Mel Gibson admirers. When asked if the actor who played Max Rockatansky in the first three films will return to the Mad Max world, Miller said doing so would pull audiences out of the whole movie experience.

"If Mel, who is Max in a lot of people's memories, appeared in the next movie, it would pull audiences out of the movie for a bit, and we worked so hard to keep people immersed in the movie as much as possible," Miller shared. "It would be like, I don't know, seeing Roger Moore appearing in a Daniel Craig James Bond movie."

Just in case you still managed to find an ounce of hope in the above response, Miller explicitly stated that Gibson would not make an appearance.

When asked about the progress of more Warner Bros. sequels, the 70-year-old director kept mum on specific details, but he did acknowledge that the film might not end up with the alleged title "Wasteland."

"Probably won't be called Wasteland. I can say that," said Miller. "It was just the working title we gave it."

As regards "Oscar talk" for 2015's "Mad Max: Fury Road," Miller insists that he isn't buying into the whole "expectation game," but is happy to be able to come up with a "halfway decent movie."
