Gary Oldman says 'Batman v. Superman' has 'big shoes to fill'

The production of "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" has not been without a good share of fanfare, but the film is certainly under a microscope and every last detail that we get is fodder for Internet scrutiny.

Fans have seen the new Bat-suit, Superman's updated duds and the awesome looking Batmobile, but the production is not without its detractors. Most notably, brilliant actor Gary Oldman, who spoke to Yahoo recently while promoting his latest film "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."

"They want to keep it going. Of course they do. But, it's Superman yeah? Batman and Superman together? We shall see," the actor told Yahoo. "The thing about Nolan, there was some grounding of reality to it. In our trilogy, and as fantastical and as big as The Joker was, it was based [on reality]… we could relate to it."

"But now we've got a Batman and we've got a guy who can fly who's an alien?! We'll have to see..." Oldman continued after being asked by Yahoo about the film being released so soon after the Christopher Nolan Bat-trilogy. It seems that the Oscar nominated actor has voiced a big concern of fanboys and girls around the world.

Zack Snyder's epic superhero film does not drop until 2016, but legions of fans have already voiced their main gripes of the already underway production. "It's got big shoes to fill," added Oldman.

You can't help but notice that Oldman does not sound like a huge fan of what they are trying to do with the Bat-franchise. While he remains neutral on the subject, clearly he is a little "iffy" on what direction Warner Bros. is taking the property. The Nolan trilogy has set an amazing bar for all superhero movies, and its gritty take on the Batman canon resonated with die-hards and casual fans across the globe.

When "Batman v. Superman" hits theaters it will barely be four years since "The Dark Knight Rises" debuted. It will be under a great deal of scrutiny from the first teaser trailer to the final cut. For now, the actor who played Commissioner Gordon seems underwhelmed.

"I don't mind, we had our moment in the sun," says the A-list actor.

As we wait for the newest tidbit to emerge, ravenous fans with bated breath are ready to dissect and analyze every last frame of Snyder's film. Hopefully there will be some news and footage at the San Diego Comic Con next week.
