Aussie singer-songwriter, Sia, dropped the first single of her new album “This is Acting” back in September. But now we finally have a music video to accompany “Alive” and it most assuredly delivers a powerful punch!
And all those punches, kicks, and jabs happen to be delivered by one of the littlest martial artists you have ever seen. Nine-year old black belter, Mahiro Takana is the feature of the video and just like Sia's past videos which featured dancer, Maddie Ziegler, the camera-shy singer opts not to show her own face and places the spotlight on the young girl instead.
Takana shows off her skills in a minimally furnished concrete room. Her stare is so intense that from the get-go you know this is not the kid you'll ever want to mess with – even if she is wearing a ying-yang platinum blonde and black wig like the one featured on the album cover art for “This is Acting.”
According to reports, Sia originally wrote the song “Alive” with Tobias Jesso Jr., a Canadian pop star, in mind to sing it, or Adele, who also co-wrote it for her album “25.” However, those plans fell through and after it was also offered to Rihanna, Sia finally recorded it for her own use and it's clear that the song went to the right person.
Sia's powerful vocals deliver just the right kick to go with the emotional lyrics, and as featured alongside the slicing and dicing of Takana in the video, it is quite likely to catapult Sia as well as young Takana straight to the top of the charts just like it did for Ziegler who was the star of “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart.”
Takana hails from Tokyo and her martial arts skills are so impressive that she's even a 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Karate Ambassador.
