AMC releases new information about 'Better Call Saul'

The "Breaking Bad" prequel "Better Call Saul" continues to make the news well before the show has even premiered. Now, cable network AMC has released more information about the highly-anticipated prequel, which is set to premiere in early 2015.

In the series, comic actor Bob Odenkirk stars as criminal lawyer Saul Goodman six years before Goodman meets meth king Walter White. In the show we meet the Saul character when he is known as hustler lawyer Jimmy McGill trying to make ends meet.

According to AMC, "Fixer" Mike Erhmantraut, played by Jonathan Banks, will also have a substantial role in the spinoff. The AMC drama also features Mike McKean as Chuck, Rhea Seehorn as Kim, Patrick Fabian as Hamlin and Michael Mando as Nacho.

It is rare that a show that has not even premiered its first season get the green light for a second, but that is exactly what has happened. It is a move that shows the faith the network has in the "Breaking Bad" brand. "Saul" will follow the transformation of Jimmy McGill into shady strip mall lawyer Saul Goodman. While the show is set to be a drama, it will also have a good dose of dark humor thanks to comic actor Odenkirk.

Behind the production is "Breaking Bad" execs Vince Gilligan and writer-producer Peter Gould. The pair will act as show runners for the production's 10-episode maiden season. While the first season will consist of 10 episodes, the second season will have 13. The show is currently in production in Albuquerque, New Mexico but will not be ready for fans until next year.

The show will have a mixture of both legitimate and illegitimate sides of the law with a healthy dose of shady characters. Odenkirk of "Mr. Show" fame vaulted to his own series after acting as the breakout character on "Breaking Bad." While details are mum at press time, the show already has a built-in audience ready to follow the misadventures of their favorite attorney.

It may be a while until the show premieres, but fans are already chomping at the bit for more "Saul." "Breaking Bad" continues to gain new fans via On Demand and streaming devices. It is fair to say that the devoted fans of "Breaking Bad" will be at the ready when the spin-off debuts sometime in early 2015.
