Daniel Craig had some choice words on being the current face of James Bond, but his producers are having none of it, keen on keeping the actor for at least another round as 007.
But it's not like they're dismissing the actor's sentiments.
Barbara Broccoli said that, after spending 8 months shooting "Spectre," Craig was tired, adding that, at the end of a movie, everyone treats the thought of doing another one immediately as a bit too much.
"You don't ask a woman who's just given birth, ‘oh, when are you going to do it again?'"
To be fair, Craig had gone from saying he'd rather slit his wrists than be James Bond again (even though he has been contracted to appear at least one more time as 007) to stating that he'll keep at it as long as he is physically able. He did have a knee injury while filming "Spectre."
This is good news for Broccoli and fellow Bond producer Michael G. Wilson, neither of which have entertained the thought of who will come after Craig as James Bond. According to Broccoli, Daniel Craig is their James Bond and there will be no speculations until that's no longer the case.
"We want to hang on to him. Let's hope we can," added the producer.
"Spectre" is the 24th James Bond film. This means the 25th will be a big deal, which could mean a lot of big things in store for Craig for 007. "Spectre" is Craig's 4th outing as James Bond.
Despite being a film series that's 53 years old, "James Bond" is still a big draw. "Skyfall," for instance, raked in more than $1.1 billion in ticket sales across the globe, making it the highest grossing film of the lot. It may be too early to tell if "Spectre" will be exceeding those numbers but already the movie is breaking all-time box office records in almost every location it has been released in so far.
Directed as well by Sam Mendes, "Spectre" is due to hit U.S. cinemas Nov. 6.
