If you were one of the millions who tuned in to watch AMC's The Walking Dead last night (and may or may not have been disappointed by the off-format 90-minute standalone episode all about Morgan Jones), there is a good chance you weren't only turning in to figure out what happened to Glenn. AMC announced in October that they would premier the first-ever trailer for their new comic book-based series Preacher, and last night, they finally delivered.
Produced by Seth Rogen, Sam Catlin, and Evan Goldberg, and based on the Vertigo comic by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher's transition from the page to the small screen appears to do justice to the original material, slinging titular character Jesse Custer (played by Dominic Cooper) onto a precarious precipice between the realms of good and evil, angels and demons, hero and anti-hero, and justice and mercy—all in the middle of the Lone Star State. It's the supernatural, gothic Wild Western fans have been waiting for.
Here is AMC's official synopsis for the series:
"Preacher follows Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, and has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned his responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making him answer for his dereliction of duty. Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print - an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers - a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse."
Preacher will make its debut on AMC in mid-2016.
