Every once in a while, people come up with really unexpected, weird and cool innovations which are pretty useless. Remember Android running on a calculator? Well, that thing's cousin came out as an Android Wear running Nintendo console games.
When LG, a South Korean multinational conglomerate, released the LG G Watch in June 2014, the company envisioned people putting the smartwatch on their wrists to check for time, social media notifications, emails and so on. What it didn't imagine is for Super Mario 64 to be played on it. And in that aspect, YouTuber Hacking Jules got the better of LG.
Hacking Jules started uploading content about six months ago. The initial content were tutorials on how to make Android and iOS devices run on Linux and old versions of Windows — iPad on Windows 98 SE and Windows XP, and Android devices on Windows 7. One viewer questioned why he would do such things and the humble YouTuber with a lot of time on his hands said, "because you can." And that's all the reasoning needed to proceed to his hacks.
About a month ago, he started uploading videos of several Nintendo console games running on the LG G Watch W100, including Mario Kart, Pokemon, Pac-Man, Tetris, Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter II. In his latest video, Jules featured Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 while they were running on the LG smartwatch.
Needless to say, the display is too small to have any sensible gameplay, but that doesn't diminish his work in re-living a few of the great games that influenced some of the best game designers today and shaped the lives of countless nerds all over the world.
So there you go folks, it's fun, cool but useless. Nonetheless, if you want to appreciate the man's dedication, the video below should be a good start.
