After what seems like an eternity of heel dragging, Nintendo is finally joining the rest of the world in the mobile space—but naturally, the company is doing so on its own terms. Along with the recently announced Pokemon Go, the company will be launching a smartphone title called Miitomo.
Now due out in March—thanks to a delay that pushed it back from a late-2015 release—the title isn't the mobile Mario or Zelda title many have been not so silently dreaming of. Miitomo revolves around customizable Mii avatars and a whole lot of social interaction between players.
Beyond that, there's not a heck of a lot of information about gameplay. After all, the title was just announced at an investors meeting in Tokyo earlier today. What we do know, however, is that it will be free to play, but upgrades will cost you.
The title is set to launch with four more still unannounced mobile games in March, although those titles will be paid downloads. According to the company's newly appointed president Tatsumi Kimishima, Miitomo was pushed back for promotional reasons, so the company can focus on its current slate of holiday titles.
