The chemistry is heating up for the "Suicide Squad" as they get ready to take over theatres in Aug. 2016. Director David Ayer revealed that a love triangle - or rather a ragged triangle - will play heavy on the super villains turned reluctant heroes as Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie struggles to break free from her dependent relationship with Jared Leto's Joker.
Meanwhile, according to Will Smith on his character, Deadshot, he's got the hots for the Joker's property.
The story line seems to be lifted right out of the comic books, notably DC's "New 52" where psychotic Harley starts to show more independence and self-esteem. The animated film "Batman: Assault on Arkham" as well shows Harley trying to break free from her role as The Joker's doormat.
According to interviews, Will Smith was eager to explore the relationship dynamic between his cybernetic sharp shooting hitman character and the tortured, crazy psychologist-turned-psycho, Harley.
"Harley is the biggest troublemaker, but Deadshot's actually eyeballing her a little bit. There's a pretty ragged romantic triangle there," he said.
Director David Ayers also revealed in an interview that the story of Harley Quinn is definitely one of Suicide Squad's main plot lines.
"It's about her breaking free of The Joker and becoming this fully actualized, independent person. That really is a metaphor for everyone's journey here," he said.
Certainly each member of the bad guy squad has an interesting tale to tell and we can't wait to see how they all ended up in Belle Reve as a rag tag bunch of the world's most dangerous criminals.
Also to be featured in "Suicide Squad" are Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney in his natural Aussie accent as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana and her magical sword, Jay Hernandez as the fire-starting El Diablo, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, the squad's big boss lady.
