Samsung Foldable Smartphone 'Project Valley' SM-G929F Details Leak With List Of Launch Countries

Samsung has been known to start major trends in the mobile world and a new report claims the company will launch a very unique smartphone in January 2016. New details on the foldable 'Project Valley' smartphone have leaked, along with the countries the device will launch in.

When it comes to taking risks in the ultra competitive smartphone market, Samsung has the money, resources, talent, and a reasonable success rate with trying out new innovations in its mobile business.

You can thank Samsung for bringing jumbo-sized displays that border on small tablet proportions when it launched the original Galaxy Note in September 2011. While most tech critics deemed the device DOA (dead on arrival), Samsung proved its skeptics wrong and so did consumers. The Galaxy Note series is the company's flagship phablet line and companies like Apple, LG, HTC, Motorola, and Microsoft have all joined the party.

Samsung has also continued to innovate with new and unique displays, like the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+, which feature dual-edge curved displays and have been a hit with smartphone and phablet fans. It seems only fitting that Samsung is about to unleash a new smartphone that will be defined by its display and this time it's going to be foldable.

We first reported on the Samsung foldable smartphone in September, which is codenamed 'Project Valley' and now we can report some new details regarding the handset.

According to SamMobile, the 'Project Valley' smartphone will use the model number SM-G929F and could have specs similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge+, although some reports have indicated Samsung is testing the smartphone with Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM, and will bring back microSD expansion slots, which were nixed from the company's current flagship Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Note 5, and S6 Edge+.

The new report also provides a list of launch countries for Samsung's first foldable smartphone. Its sources claim the 'Project Valley' handset will go on sale in the following markets:

  • BTU - United Kingdom
  • CPW - United Kingdom (Carphone Warehouse)
  • DBT - Germany
  • ITV - Italy
  • KOR - South Korea
  • NEE - Nordic countries
  • XEF - France
  • XEO - Poland
  • XEU - United Kingdom / Ireland

While the U.S. is not listed, it's certainly possible this list could grow, as we get closer to its rumored January 2016 launch. We'll keep you posted on any new details regarding the foldable Samsung 'Project Valley' smartphone as they become available.
