The Pokémon games are some of the best and most fun titles for Nintendo systems. They are probably the most consistent, which is why many folks have gotten excited when rumors broke that a Pokémon game could launch in 2017 after the release of the Nintendo Switch.
We can't say how much of this rumor is true, but it would make perfect sense for Nintendo to go this route. The company needs to have killer launch titles to sell the platform, especially with Sony having early successes with the PlayStation 4 Pro.
What To Expect From The Rumored Pokémon Game
According to a report from Eurogamer, the game is likely an offshoot version of Pokémon Sun and Moon. We understand the codename for the game is Stars, and like siblings to Yellow and Blue, there's a good chance Stars might come with legendary monsters instead of just the regular classes.
Eurogamer went on to report that development began on Stars not too long after the team at Games Freak ended development on Sun and Moon, so it could very well make it to the March 2017 launch date of the Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, Eurogamer is reporting that this won't be a simple report, and players should expect high-end graphics.
What's great here, if true, players will have the option to trade Pokémon back and forth between the console and the handheld versions of the game. This will likely be done using the Pokémon Bank mobile app, so Pokémon GO players could get in on the fun as well.
Now, for anyone hoping to play this game come March of next year, that might not happen. The reports claim the title will indeed come in 2017, but after the launch of the Switch. However, the sources did not give an exact date, so it could take some time.
Still, seeing as the game is based on Sun and Moon, titles that have already been made, it shouldn't take too long for the developers to bring Stars to market.
Here is what Nintendo had to say about a Pokémon game coming to the Switch in a short interview with Eurogamer back in Septmeber:
"We've always made [main] Pokémon games on Nintendo hardware," according to the game's director, Shigeru Ohmori. "Something which has been important to us recently has been the communication and wireless features. So when we consider whether we should bring something to one thing or another, it really depends on is the hardware itself. "
Should this happen, then Nintendo could very well sell a ton of Switch consoles next year as gamers anticipate what could be one of the best looking Pokémon games in a long time.
