The fourth-generation Apple TV is now available for purchase on Apple's online store in the U.S. and more than 70 other countries including the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia, with shipping scheduled to begin Friday, Oct. 30.
Unveiled at Apple's September event, the new Apple TV is available in 32-GB and 64-GB options that come with same features and specs. The device includes Siri voice control with universal search so that the user can easily find content across all apps installed. It also includes App Store support to play games (with its API open for developers for the first time) and use apps (such as streaming Netflix, HBO Now, or WatchESPN) directly on a user's TV, including the support of tvOS apps that are designed specifically for Apple TV.
The new set-top box has an A8 processor, and comes with a designed remote control with a touch interface that also acts as a game controller.
The new Apple TV as shipped includes the set-top box, remote control, a power cord and USB/Lightning cable to charge the remote. Users will need an HDMI cable that is sold separately.
The fourth-generation Apple TV retails for $149 for the 32-GB version and $199 for the 64-GB version, with the HDMI cable available for $19, a wrist strap for the remote for $12.99, and additional remotes for $79.
Apple will start shipping out the Apple TV's that are preordered today between Oct. 30 and Nov. 3, with free shipping available for delivery between Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.
Apple will continue to sell its third-generation Apple TV with a reduced price of $69.
