Potato salad Kickstarter project hits $20,000

People really love potato salad, apparently. A Kickstarter project to make said side dish was posted on July 3, asking for $10. It has already raised $24,000 -- though the number will surely be higher by the time you read this.

"Basically I'm just making potato salad. I haven't decided what kind yet," said Zack Brown, the man who posted the page on Kickstarter. As the project has gone on, he has added a variety of stretch goals to keep up with demand. Currently, he is making four batches of potato salad, including one that is vegetarian and one with vinegar instead of mayo. The recipes were supplied by a chef.

He will be doing all of this potato salad making at a party hall he will rent out, and he has invited the entire Internet to attend. What a guy. Plus, he is going to live stream the creation of these potato salads.

Backer rewards for the Kickstarter project now include getting a photo of Brown and the potato salad, him saying your name during the live stream of the potato salad's creation, being sent a potato salad-themed hat, getting a signed jar of mayo, being mailed a potato salad haiku, receiving a book of potato salad recipes and even getting a bite of the now famous potato salad. That last one will be tricky.

"I promise you I am working with people right now to assess the feasibility of sending potato salad around the world. I will do everything I can to make a bite of potato salad a reality," Brown states in the FAQ section.

In June, Kickstarter expanded the kinds of projects that were allowed to be posted on the crowdfunding site. As long as something isn't illegal, isn't a charity or isn't promising financial rewards, it can be posted on the site.

Furthermore, Kickstarter projects were previously reviewed by the company before going live. Now projects are posted automatically, and are then reviewed later. Kickstarter will also give helpful feedback to project creators, to help them manage the project.

Brown knows this may not work out. He states under the project's section for risks and challenges, "It might not be that good. It's my first potato salad."
