Apple's upcoming headquarters, the Campus 2, the exterior design of which looks similar to a spaceship, has been spotted by Mercury News.
The Mercury News claims that they were given an exclusive look at a model of the company's circular new corporate headquarters. The Campus 2 is proposed to be built on a 175-acre plot of land confined by North Wolfe Road and East Homestead Road.
The new Apple headquarters is expected to be completed by 2015 and the building will have solar panels covering the roof, an underground parking structure and be surrounded by thousands of new trees planted on the grounds. The building is also said to feature several large auditoriums for holding on-site launch events.
The construction of the building is yet to begin and the Cupertino City Council will vote on the proposed development on Tuesday, October 15. The proposed building is already behind schedule and the project has also overshot the budget.
The new headquarters will be considerably larger than the company's current headquarters and will accommodate 12,000 staff. Previously, Steve Jobs had revealed that the building will be made with curved glass.
"You see the energy and the love and the attention to detail that we've put into this. We have treated this project just as we would any Apple product. And this will be a place for the most creative and collaborative teams in the industry to innovate for decades to come," said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's Chief Financial officer.
A recent TechCrunch report suggests that Apple has also started sending out brochures to Cupertino residents to support the company's new headquarters by sending an email to the Cupertino City Council. Apple is also asking residents of Cupertino to attend the October 15 vote. Apple also says that it intends to start construction of the new headquarters soon after the Cupertino City Council approves the project.
