Days before the update rolled out, Xbox One players in the Preview program were excited for it, expecting the whole package: the Windows 10-based New Xbox One Experience, to be exact. But they came across a problem that won't let them format their hard drives, essentially preventing them from using their consoles.
When they turned on their Xbox One consoles, they were greeted by the new Windows 10 dashboard. Eager to play games and such, they went to Settings to format their external hard drives — some even bought new ones just for this update — but they were stopped dead in their tracks by a circle, endlessly going round and round.
"When I am trying to set it up to format it for Games and apps, I come to the part where I can name the hard drive, briefly see the keyboard and current title 'External' before it quickly goes away and replaces it with the blue spinning circle," Redditor /u/BaronCohen posted.
Another Redditor, who goes by the name /u/thegabecarey, tried everything to make it work, exhausting all his options, but it was to no avail.
"I thought it was a problem with my hard drive, so I connected it to my computer, deleted the single partition on the disk, added the partition back, and formatted it once again to NTFS. Connected it to my Xbox One with the same load screen. Next, I tried again with exFAT and then FAT32 — still with no luck," he posted on a Reddit thread.
It seems that the problem doesn't lie in the hard drive; the problem is in the new UI. To get past the issue, the Xbox support team suggested to do an offline system update using Microsoft's Offline System Update Diagnostic Tool. However, this will remove the NXOE from the Xbox One.
It looks like there's no other options left but to wait for a fix from Microsoft. The best we can do right now is to keep sending reports so that the issue with the Xbox One and the NXOE will get resolved sooner.
