What appears to be the successor to the Nokia Lumia 820 has been spotted in the wild, donning what looks like aluminum housing and sporting a camera reminiscent of the one found on the Lumia 1020.
With Windows Phone 8.1 on the horizon and the release of the Lumia 820 years in the past (it was released in 2012), the timing may be right for the release of a Lumia 830.
Nothing conclusive was found to support their legitimacy when images alleging to depict a Lumia 830 appeared on WPD, a Chinese website powered by Windows Azure. On top of having little to support the device's authenticity, visual assessment offers only a little insight on the pictured device's features and specifications.
The alleged Lumia 830 dedicates a large amount of its face to its display, significantly more than the 820, and looks as if it could be as large as 4.7 inches. The device appears to be a touch thinner than the 820 and it seems to be reinforced by aluminum.
While the alleged images of the Lumia 830 depict a phone with camera that looked a lot like the Lumia 1020's 41-megapixel camera, the flat form factor of the 830's rear makes it unlikely the device will feature a camera on par with that of the 1020. However, the 830 was expected to fall into the medium price range and a camera along the line of the one the 1020 sports would push the 830 into the high range.
The Lumia 830 was expected to be slotted into the midrange of Microsoft lineup of smartphones, along with the Lumia Superman, with both phones falling between the low-end Lumia Rock and the high-end Lumia McLaren. Each of the new phones would run Windows Phone 8.1.
While the specs of the Lumia 830 haven't been released, as the device has yet to be confirmed, Windows Phone enthusiasts can count on the 830 stepping up from the 820's 480p resolution into the 720p range. The 830's processor may receive a bit of a buff, likely double the clock speed of the 820 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, to help the device stand out from the current pack of midtier devices.
The words, "Nokia by Microsoft," appear on the back of one of the images, but were absent from another rear shot of the alleged Lumia 830. On every image of the alleged 830's face, "Nokia" appears above the device's display. As part of Microsoft's deal to acquire Nokia, it was granted a 10-year license to continue creating devices with Nokia branding.
