Twitter has announced that they will be introducing a polling feature that users will be able to post on their profiles in an effort to give them a "very easy way to make your voice heard."
In the popular social media platform's official statement, the company posits that the two-choice polling service can be used for something as tame as what to name your dog, to as something as weighty as the upcoming presidential election.
For poll voters who are worried about privacy, the names of voters will not be available to the public, though there is no word on how this information will correlate with Twitter's privacy policy.
While the official release of Twitter polling is relatively new, the company has been conducting beta tests for its latest addition since September, under the supervision of COO Adam Bain.
As the release also mentions, Twitter has played around with the idea with polling before, previously by collecting and counting hashtag votes, or, more indirectly, with users asking their followers to tweet back answers to a posed question. But with Twitter as one of the leading aggregate news sources, and the ground zero for hashtag activism, it can be assumed that the two-choice poll option will have a noticeable effect on the ways in which Twitter users combine polling with both.
Twitter polls will be available for iOS, Android, and their desktop platform within the next few days.
