A girl will do anything to achieve her goals and that is exactly what Maisie Williams wants people to know as she skydives for a good cause. On Oct. 17, the 18-year old "Game of Thrones" star who plays Arya Stark jumped 15,000 feet off a plane while strapped to a tandem instructor, all in the name of saving dolphins and helping raise money for those with learning disabilities.
Williams was originally scheduled to skydive in June but the weather prevented her from going forward with the plan and setting a Guinness World Record. On Oct. 15, she announced on her Twitter account that her skydiving attempt will finally push through and asked her followers to donate for the causes she supports.
The "Game of Thrones" star jumped together with Ric O' Barry to promote their campaign. O' Barry used to be a dolphin trainer in the 1960s before establishing the Dolphin Project, Inc., a non-profit organization established on Apr. 22, with money donated by Fred Neil and Steven Stills. The organization aims to protect dolphins worldwide and educate the public about the truth behind dolphin captivity. Williams is one of the organization's youth ambassadors.
After her skydiving stunt, Williams' Crowdrise page reflected that it had received $1,005 in donations. However, this amount still falls short of their target of $2,000. On the other hand, Williams' Mencap charity fundraising JustGiving page indicated that it has reached its goal and currently has a total of £1,259.47 or $1,426.85. Mencap is the leading charity in the United Kingdom (U.K.) that caters to people with learning disabilities. One of its supporters is Christopher Eccleston, who played the ninth regeneration of "The Doctor" in the 2005 reboot of "Doctor Who," the British Broadcasting Corporation's (BBC) series where Williams recently guest-starred as a Viking girl.
