Detectives Linden and Holden will have one more murder case to agonize over, according to the new trailer for season four of "The Killing."
The grim show about Seattle homicide detectives Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder, played by Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman respectively, is getting one last season of six episodes, airing as an original show on Netflix.
The trailer reveals that the detectives are dealing with the ramifications of last season's finale, including a brewing tension between them. And then they are assigned to a new case, involving a boy who killed his whole family and then attempted to kill himself. In other words, the usual dark content that has aired on "The Killing."
Fans of the show should be interested in these last six episodes, as according to the YouTube page, this season "wraps up loose ends and reveals long-buried secrets."
Netflix has saved "The Killing" before. It had been canceled after two seasons on AMC, but Netflix paid AMC for a third season, which is the only thing that got that season made. Now, Netflix is cutting out the middle man and just airing the fourth season of "The Killing" itself.
And this isn't the first time Netflix has saved a television show. The company brought back the acclaimed comedy "Arrested Development" for a fourth season back in May 2013.
In the last few years, Netflix has de-emphasized its DVD rental business in favor of streaming video through set-top boxes, game consoles and mobile devices. The company has since backed several original television shows, including prison dramedy "Orange Is the New Black," teen horror show "Hemlock Grove" and political thriller "House of Cards."
Netflix has several other upcoming original programs in the pipeline, including "Sense8" from "Matrix" directors the Wachowskis, the animated "BoJack Horseman" from Will Arnett and Aaron Paul, the new Chelsea Handler late night talk show and five Marvel Comics's shows including Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and the Defenders.
The fourth season of "The Killing" starts streaming August 1 on Netflix.
