‘Battleborn’ Closed Beta Starts Oct. 29: No Slots Guaranteed So Register Now

Gearbox Software, the game developer behind the Borderlands franchise, announced that its upcoming FPS (first-person shooter) title, Battleborn, will be undergoing closed technical tests. The Texas-based developer is currently looking to fill slots for the testing team.

Battleborn's closed beta testing phase will start on Oct. 29. In order for it to fulfill its goal of ironing out the gameplay, which entails balancing characters and fixing bugs, it needs individuals who are willing dedicate a fair amount of hours and submit feedback. The CBT will also enable Gearbox and 2K Games, Battleborn's publisher, to stress test its servers and assess if its online infrastructure works.

Just like every other game CBT out there, those who get chosen will have the opportunity to play the game ahead of everyone else. However, the slots are limited and registration alone will not secure spots for the CBT.

Moreover, for interested parties to be considered, the minimum system requirements must first be met. The computers must run on the version of Windows 7 64-bit or later Windows OS releases, along with 6GB of RAM and 10GB of free storage space. For Intel systems, the company wants to see at least a quad-core Intel Core2 Extreme Q6850 (Socket 775) processor. For AMD, it will be the AMD A8-3870k APU.

Having an Nvidia GTX 660X and AMD 7700HD or better graphics cards will satisfy the requirements. Note that the cards to be valid they need to have 2GB of VRAM, PhysX support and DX 11 compliant.

However, the selection will not be solely based on the participant's system. Location, availability, platform preference and acceptance of the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) will also be factored in.

With the NDA acceptance, the participants will be obliged not to capture gameplay footage, post images, livestream and talk about the CBT details publicly.

Battleborn is due for a release on Feb. 9, 2016.
