The year still has a few months left but DC Comics is more than ready to welcome 2016, announcing new titles and creative changes fans can expect come January.
Announced at the San Diego Comic-Con, an all-new SWAMP THING series will be debuting at the start of the new year, penned by co-creator Len Wein and with art from Kelley Jones. In the ongoing series, Swamp Thing gets an ominous warning and is attacked by dark magic forces, but fighting more than the usual monsters is not the worst to happen to Alec Holland for other things appear to be looming on the horizon.
POISON IVY: CYCLE OF LIFE AND DEATH was also announced at the SDCC (as well as the New York Comic-Con last week), to be written by Amy Chu and with art from Clay Mann. The miniseries will feature six issues and will follow Dr. Pamela Isley's time after joining the Gotham Botanical Gardens plant sciences department. But what will happen to her after a fellow scientist gets murdered and Poison Ivy is a suspect?
January will also see the release of a new Digital First series involving Wonder Woman. THE LEGEND OF WONDER WOMAN will have Renae De Liz as writer and illustrator, with Ray Dillon as inker/colorist. The nine-issue digital series features a beginning with nothing but chaos but Queen of the Amazons Hyppolyta sees a brighter future that Diana of Themyscira is destined to herald, after she learns some important Amazonian lessons. As it will feature a young Diana growing up alongside Hippolyta, fans of Sensation Comics may take a liking to this series.
Tom Taylor rounds up the list with BATMAN/SUPERMAN #28 and GREEN LANTERN CORPS: EDGE OF OBLIVION, working with Robson Rocha and Ethan Van Sciver, respectively. BATMAN/SUPERMAN #28 will be three-part epic highlighting an untold tale from Batman and Superman's early days fighting crime where the two will be fighting a menace that will test their friendship and partnership. GREEN LANTERN CORPS: EDGE OF OBLIVION, on the other hand, is set after GREEN LANTERN: LOST ARMY, with the GL Corps led by John Stewart are still looking for a way home as the universe descends into total collapse, facing desperate survivors and dying gods along the way.
These titles all offer rich diversity so there's sure to be something for everyone come January.
