Xiaomi has previously sent out invites to an event that will be happening on Oct. 19. No other details regarding the event were included in the invitation aside from the date, which launched massive speculations on what the company is planning to do.
Most of the speculations have focused on the company unveiling new devices. It has been said that Xiaomi will be unveiling the highly anticipated Mi 5 and Mi Note 2 smartphones, as the devices have been the subject of numerous leaks and rumors recently.
Unfortunately, the questions surrounding the Mi 5 and the Mi Note 2 will apparently not be answered on Oct. 19, as the event seems to have nothing to do with the said devices.
Lin Bin, the president of Xiaomi, has said that the company will not be unveiling the Mi 5 and the Mi Note 2 in the Oct. 19 event. In addition, he said that other products such as smartwatches and notebooks will not be a part of the event.
If not for the Mi 5 and the Mi Note 2, what could the Oct. 19 event hold? Speculations will again run rampant similar to how they did after invitations for the event were revealed. One such speculation is that Xiaomi could be preparing to unveil something related to the video game industry, as Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, posted on social media website Weibo that the next generation of technology and science, such as games, consoles and processors, has not been used much within the smartphone industry.
While the Oct. 19 event may not be for the Mi 5, it does not mean that the device will not be launched this year as there could be another event that will be set up for the smartphone.
The Mi 5 is expected to feature top-of-the-line specifications, with the device rumored to have a 5.2-inch full HD screen and powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset, an Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The device's release within the year, however, depends on Qualcomm being able to release the Snapdragon 820 in time.
