BattleCry, an online multiplayer third-person combat game, was previewed during the 21st nniversary of Electronic Entertainment Expo in June 2015. After the E3 debut, however, not much has been publicized about the game.
The last post on BattleCry's Twitter page is the invitation to sign up for the beta, which was supposed to commence in the fall of 2015. Now that fall is here, people are wondering about the game.
An Australian publication, which centers on video game news, reached out to Bethesda Softworks, the game publisher, to get the latest scoop on Battlecry. Based on Bethesda's reply, the game's launch seems to be stalled.
"We have concerns about the Battlecry game and whether it is meeting the objectives we have for it," a Bethesda representative told Progressbar. "We are evaluating what improvements the game needs to meet our quality standards. The studio remains busy during this process on multiple projects."
BattleCry, which was announced in May 2014, was developed by BatteCry Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. Both subsidiaries of ZineMax Media Inc., a privately held media firm based in Maryland.
The free-to-play game is set during the re-imagined "dawn of the" 20th century, which is a time when the industrial revolution kicked in. To establish dominance while keeping the peace and avoiding open wars, three competing factions—Han Republic, Cossack Empire and Imperial Marines—send out their elite personnel to compete in arenas where lives and limbs are wagered.
"All disagreements are now settled head-on by elite teams of chosen warriors from all over the world, with each member specializing in either high-tech ranged gadgetry or sophisticated melee weapons," explains the game's portal.
There are five classes within the game—Enforcer, Gadgeteer, Brawler, Infiltrator and Ranger. The Enforcers are the basic tanks, Gadgeteers are supports with guns, Brawlers are the melee dps, Infiltrators are the game's take assassins and the Rangers are the bow-wielding ranged dps. The weaponry used are built from "industrial punk technology," which showcases the primitive-looking guns and bionic arms, along with steel bows and crossbows.
Each faction will have gender-locked representative for each class. For instance, the Han Republic enforcer is Khulun while Akamu and Vira represent the Imperial Marines and Cossack Empire, respectively.
As someone who likes to PvP, I would love to see this game released as soon as possible. However, I would rather wait a few more months for a good game than see the title get buried because of bugs and imbalances, which will surely leave a sour taste.
