Backwards compatibility could just be the next big thing that can happen to console and PC game playing.
Xbox is currently testing the Xbox One backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 titles. Microsoft has confirmed before that it is bringing backwards compatibility to the console which will finally allow its players to play original Xbox 360 titles.
Likewise, the console's backwards compatibility with original Xbox games is a feature that Xbox One fans would also like to see in the near future. As said in an interview, Xbox head Phil Spencer agreed that being able to play original Xbox games on Xbox One is definitely a great venture.
"Xbox games on Xbox One is something I want to do, but it is a matter of priority," said Spencer. "I would love to have the ability to play Xbox 360 on PC at some point too, so we have different things we have to think about when we plan these things. But it would be great to have support for original Xbox games. So yes, I want it, but we have many other things we want to do as well."
In other words, Microsoft would also like Xbox 360 players to play their favorite titles on PC. Since the console has a massive library of games, being able to play all of them on PC would be a really great achievement. Some of the popular titles which PC users are keen to start playing include Gears of War, the Crackdown series, and Red Dead Redemption.
Early in August, Spencer also mentioned titles such as Scalebound and Quantum Break as not being ruled out when asked about porting the games to PC. He even explained why such titles were not initially announced for PC.
"In the case of things like Scalebound or Crackdown or Quantum Break, you know just to be completely honest with you, we started those games before we really looked at expanding into Windows in the way that I wanted to bring as part of becoming head of Xbox," said Spencer.
Microsoft recently updated the Windows 10 Xbox app which brought in features such as stability of game streaming and enhancing the video quality. There's a huge possibility that the Xbox app will be an integral component in making Xbox 360 games playable on Windows 10. Apart from the app's feature to enhance streaming, it has also constantly received a number of updates since the launch of Windows 10.
While Spencer admitted in the past that the company is not geared towards making all games available on all of their platforms, they are doing continuous improvements to the Windows 10 Xbox app.
It's also worth noting that Microsoft knows how to listen to what their users want and had always welcome suggestions and comments from the Xbox User Voice feedback forum. One of the popular topics include the one on Xbox and Windows 10 which has received almost 400 suggestions in the forum.
