A woman who was driving last Saturday along Interstate 77 in North Carolina witnessed a man hanging onto the back of a car that was travelling at a speed of 50 mph.
The woman, Brenda Cruz, took a video of the terrifying incident on her mobile phone and sent it to WSOC TV Channel 9.
Cruz was sitting in the vehicle behind the moving sedan with the man in the back, along with her entire family. She said that she felt worry for the man, especially with the speed at which all the vehicles in the interstate were running.
"All of a sudden the kids say, 'There's someone on top of the car on the trunk,' and I'm like what?" said Cruz. "I said, "'Let me get my phone and started recording.'"
Cruz said that while she was recording the incident, the other cars on the highway were decreasing speed as the drivers took a look at the man that was hanging at the back of the car.
She added that they saw the car's driver was a woman, and that there was a child sitting inside the car with her.
Samuel Cruz, Brenda's 17-year-old son, said that he thought that the person at the back of the car was a dummy at first.
The man was trying to break the glass of the back windshield open with what he said looked like a sharp object. The man was eventually able to break the glass and climb through it into the moving vehicle.
"I'm really worried because I just hope she's OK you know, with her kid," Samuel Cruz said.
The authorities said that they received several calls regarding the incident that happened before the road's exit 7. However, they said that by the time that police arrived at the scene, the vehicle cannot be located. In addition, the police do not have additional details that they need to investigate the matter further.
With what the authorities know of the case, they believe that the woman driver and the man hanging on the back of the vehicle know each other, with the case perhaps an incident of domestic violence.
However, they added that it is far too early in the ongoing investigation to arrive at any conclusions, as they are trying to dive deeper into the case. If charges will be made, the authorities said that it will be the woman driver that will be responsible for the incident.
